Canoeing Chalet 2009!

WOOHOOO! It's that time of the year again, time to relax at the canoeing chalet! Just for those who don't know, this is an annual event for the canoeists ( lol I make it sound so official ) to escape from the harsh trainings and just have fun at either a chalet or a barbeque. Last year, if you have read the older posts, we had a barbeque at Pasir Ris. This year, Brandon and Ignatius had organised a 3-day 2-night chalet at Pasir Ris, Brandon organising and spreading the word, while Ignatius's father Dr Koh help us book the chalet for us.

Most of us had met up at the Macdonald's in Pasir Ris, had lunch at the food court, then head down to the chalet. When Dr Koh and Ignatius arrived, Dr Koh helped to check us in before he left, then the fun started. Once we stepped into the block, Paul and Shaun both started screaming like maniacs. We split ourselves up to occupy the two blocks, seniors mostly occupying one block while the juniors occupied the other.

Shaun had immediately plugged in his PS3 into the television set provided, and started hitting the buttons on the controller as soon as he set it up. While he demonstrated how Ratchet and Clank was played, he sweared loudly over and over again, forcing us to close the doors shut so the people outside could not hear us. Shaun then showed us how to play GTA before letting us each take a turn. We soon got addicted to the mindless game.

Sometime in the afternoon, we decided to take a break to cycle. Each of us had rented a bike to cycle around the park, and we soon split up. Actually we got lost so we split up into three groups. Here is basically what happened. Group A the majority cycled around Pasir Ris and even to Bedok without Group 2 and 3. Group 2 tried to look for group 3 but could not find them for quite some time. Soon Group 2 and 3 met up and cycled together to Bedok and back to Pasir Ris. The three groups then met at the playground and started to relive our childhood days.

By the time we had finished cycling, it was just about time for dinner so we went to eat dinner at the nearby food court. I think it was about 8 then, but I did not expect that the whole food court would be packed. Luckily it was relatively easy to find ourselves seats. Unfortunately, we did not have our BBQ that night because we did not book any BBQ pits, but we planned to have it the next night. After dinner, we went to NTUC Fairprice to get breakfast for the next morning.

That night, most of us slept at about midnight after watching Love Guru, but some of us stayed up to play Murderer for hours. Soon they got tired of that and more people went to sleep, except a handful of us including Daryl, Samuel and I. We played GTA into the night, but once again we stopped to rest. Daryl went to sleep while Kevin and I went to the opposite block to try to get some shut eye. Kevin slept as soon as he got there, but I had an unsuccessful attempt. After about an hour lying there, I gave up and went back to the block. It was about 5 am, and I saw Samuel sitting on the steps playing handphone games.

Samuel and I did not get any sleep the whole night. So we naturally felt horrible the next day. I managed to survive until the afternoon, but gave in after another cycle around the park with Gabriel and I sharing a double-bike while Samuel and Peter shared one. Most of the others had gone to the beach to have fun. As soon as I got back from cycling, lunch and buying of BBQ food, I went to sleep for about 15 min, before Peter woke me up to ask me where the tickets to Escape Theme park were. Apparently all of them wanted to go to ride the attractions in Escape Theme park, leaving a few of us back at the block to play PS3. However, the group that went to Escape Theme Park discovered to their dismay that the Theme Park was really crappy. All we was spam the pirate ship because that was the only fun thing there. Well at least it was free...

To my surprise, the group which had gone to the beach just came back, and it was already 1pm by then, and they haven't even had lunch! The rest of the day was basically just PS3 and movies, until about 5pm. Timothy left soon after as he had to get sufficient rest for his flight to Japan.

Then, Kenneth (The ancient) dropped by together with his RJ buddies for the BBQ which was about to start. We started to prepare for the BBQ which turned out to be harder to prepare for then we initially thought. Firstly, we had to prepare the chicken which had to be smothered in marinade with our hands. Then we had to start a fire, which was close to impossible, but with the help of Zhen Xiao (RJ dude), we managed to get a decent fire started. We started cooking our food, and eventually we managed to get some edible food out to all the people. Then Mr Teo came to kope our food, he even brought his whole family to join in the BBQ =.= Well at least he gave us some Ice cream. More people arrived, and they all helped themselves to the food.

Eventually, we got really full, and people started leaving. However there lots of food left! So the ever so intelligent Brandon decided to just cook everything and decide on what to do later on. We cooked everything and cleaned up the disgusting mess that we had made outside the chalet. Then, the chalet-goers split up into 2 groups, as some of them decided to go watch a late-night movie. The rest of us decided to clean up the whole chalet, as there was chicken juice on the floor, peanut butter on the floor and even more mess everywhere. Soon Dickson ( The perverted ancient) dropped by, and helped us clean up. However misfortune soon happened, as Daryl cut himself on a piece of broken glass on the floor, and there was a glass fragment stuck in his finger. Dickson, being the most wise there, decided that we needed to got to the clinic for medical help. So, we slowly walked towards the nearby clinic, having been given directions from the Chalet reception. We got there soon after, and the doctor promptly pulled the glass fragment out (Which was close to microscopic). Daryl refused to let us chip in for the consultation fee...

We slowly made our way back to the chalet. We decided to wind down with some PS3ing, and soon enough those that went for the movie returned to the chalet. Some played PS3, while others played murderer and Indian poker. Eventually, after a long and tiring day, we all fell asleep (Well some decided not to sleep).

We woke up in the morning the next day, and packed up our things. We had to check out soon, so we did all of this in a hurry. After checking out, we waited for the shuttle bus to take us to back to the MRT station. We then ate lunch at McDonalds, and after some chit chat, made our way back home.

The chalet really was a blast, and everyone will surely look forward to next year's chalet!!!
